In the 11th century, a young Parma Rajput tribesman from Dhar settled there. He gave his name to the city, sometimes spelt and pronounced as "Zalod" by the local adivasi (tribal) population. The name "Zalod" came from Zalai Mata temple which is 1 km away from town .
Jhalod was also leading the fight against Chief Minister Chimanbhai Patel of Gujarat when "Navnirman" movement started in 1972. In 1992, when Babri Masjid was demolished by Hindu activists, communal riots took a big toll of the city. Many people died while many homes and business were burnt and destroyed.
The population of Jhalod is constituted mainly of Darji as well as Brahmins, Patels, Bohras, Marwadis, Jains, vaniks,and Muslims. Panchal

B.M. High School is a notable and famous public school located in Jhalod. There is also first girls school named P.V Patel girls high school,hendling by jhalod kelvani mandal. & There is also maniben high school hendling by kesavlal desai parivar.
Jhalod has many well known schools and one B.Com college, K.R. Desai arts & commerce collage & new begaining gov. science collage, ITI Collage. The primary school (seen in the picture) located near Bus Station area is named Manilal Chunilal Prathamik Shala named after one Vanik businessman who donated money to build this school. After serving for 35 years as a teacher, currently Ms. Jayshree Desai has served as a school principal for few years.
In the same compound where the Primary School is located, there are other schools as well such as a Middle school (5th to 7th grade), a Secondary School (8th to 10th grade) and a Higher Secondary School (11th and 12 grade).there is anew separate building for higher secondary section build by the Jhalod Kelvani Mandal. The Secondary and Higher Secondary school a.k.a B M High School, won the Best School Award in the entire Gujarat State in the year of 1992.
The main attraction of Jhalod is a bharattower & fountain hendlling by sarvajnik pustakalay mandal situated in Vadbazar Area. This tower is 80 feet tall and costs over 25 lakhs rupees. Ramsagar Lake and Jalaimata & Hanuman Temples are also worth visiting in this town. A new attraction of Jhalod is BHARAT TOWER near B M School.
there is a big hosital near bus stand its name is sundram hospital ...it is so big in the area n everyday no. of patients get benefit from rajasthan n Gujarat district, its reputed in that area. also there is RSBY[rasthiya swasthya bima yojna]available so no. of BPL card holders get benefit from hospital without any cost ....
